Dominic Commisso (AKA Adict One)
Port Washington

Dominic is an entrepreneur and creative artist who has many passions and hobbies. He grew up in Queens, NY and is talented and skilled in a variety of different forms of artistic expression including fine art and photography. Dominic’s many travels have also influenced him throughout his life and he has had the opportunity to be exposed to many different areas and cultures of the world through his time spent in the Marine Corps.

Dominic’s time in the Marines allowed him to broaden his horizons and realize his love of travel. After his service, he then spent some time pursuing business and consulting, however as a natural creative this proved to be unfulfilling. Ultimately, Dominic chose to pursue a career within the family business where his creative and professional goals align perfectly. Working as a salon owner within the family business has proved to be a satisfying career move and has given Dominic the time and flexibility to pursue his many other creative interests.

Currently, Dominic spends his days running his hair salon and his down time traveling, creating art and living life to the fullest.

I've loved art since childhood. It was my major at the University of Michigan and led to a career in advertising in New York, as an art director for Brouillard Communications, a division of J. Walter Thompson. After 13 years, I decided to leave the corporate world to start a family and to once again, pursue my study of fine arts.

My passion for strong lines and vibrant colors comes from my background as a graphic designer. Flowers were ideal subjects and each painting became an exploration on how to transform shape and color into a bold but graceful expression.

Portraiture is another favorite focus, painting from models and creating commissioned works. I'm drawn to the way color is reflected in the light and shadow of people's faces. I try to intensify this relationship on canvas while capturing the emotions and spirit of the individual personality.

Most recently, I have fallen in love with landscape and the recreation of  every day scenes .

I've made my home in Port Washington, New York. Currently, I am President of The Art Guild of Port Washington, and a member of the Port Washington Library Art Advisory Council.

I was born and raised in New York City. Although not formally trained in art, I have  produced artworks for many years. By profession, I am an audiologist who has been involved  in private practice (Manhattan) and in university teaching.

I have always been interested in art and industrial design.  My earlier works were done in ink and water colors and are shown on my website. My  interest in computers and industrial design evolved into photomanipulations from multiple images. Sometimes people think that these images are simple photographs. Not so. They consist of multiple images (as many as 20) in which segments of one photo is melded into the framework of the entire image.  The images are often take on a surrealistic feeling but not all the time.   Some of the images are painted as well. My goal as an artist is to view the world as others do not see and turn mundane events into unique images which are often playful or unusual. Some viewers might agree.

My favorite painters are Rene Magritte and Edward Hopper. So, whether by design or personality, the works appear to either depict quirky scenes or those of solitude.. or a combination of both.

In my work I use the paint to mirror my emotional state, as well as my response to the paint itself on the canvas.

I apply the paint with brushes and the palette knife, using the knife to throw, spatter, drip and mix the colors on the canvas.  I scrape off some or all of the paint, add more paint. Lines are scratched into the paint, get obscured , re-scratched, obscured  again.  Sometimes I begin with an idea, sometimes the idea is formed as I paint.  Working very quickly for a time, I respond to the paint seemingly at the same time as applying it.  The colors and shapes compete for space on the canvas as I wrestle with my own internal state.  As I continue to paint, what is “inside” appears on the “outside”, while at the same time, the paint on the canvas affects what is “inside”.  My internal state changes as a result of my response to what appears on the canvas, until my responses and the paint itself merge to form something new entirely.

The final result is a “picture” of a moment in time as well as a process, or dialogue between myself and the paint.  My wish, in part, is to create an emotional response in the viewer, and that does not have to be the emotions I experienced while painting.  Using the paint to help communicate that which cannot be spoken has become endlessly fascinating and thoroughly addictive.  I hope never to be cured.

Since I was very young I loved drawing people, mostly actresses in their beautiful costumes. I never imagined that my passion for art would eventually become my profession, and I am so grateful that it happened that way.  I attended a local art college where my artistic abilities were expanded into graphic design, painting and sketching. After graduating, I worked at several advertising agencies and corporate art departments as an art director. Today, I am a prize-winning portrait artist and an instructor at various art schools in my area. I feel very fortunate to love what I do, to do what I love, and to pass it along.

Megan Sirianni-Brand
Sea Cliff

Megan is currently having a solo show at the PW Public Library.

Sirianni-Brands densely atmospheric and poignant paintings mixed Media and formed three-dimensional scenes offer a sensitive world of imagined forms and landscapes.
The palette of deep blacks and rich browns coupled with unexpected white: together intimate a sacred and muted air, while the layered surface gestures a  hint of the concealed narritive.

"My process consists of pouring, layering, interweaving, discarding, revising, moving, lifting, removing, spreading, adding, scraping, replacing, pulling, subtracting, pushing, spilling, altering, positioning to create balance and form…"

Her materials are personal and paradoxical--thought escapes as she prepares. Colors are mixed, stirred, measured; with study, she modifies by adding and thinning, then wipes clean and changes tools:

"In my work I search for truth of expression, with a desire to reevaluate the physical environment as it may... intentional themes derive from the elements of nature; sometimes paired with experimental happenstance. My paintings are the horizon of My ocean, My sky, My earth... I can only depict what I wish to think, and leave it up to viewers to find their way through to it...

The drama discovered in every day events and the beauty of nature engages my imagination.

My plein-air expressionist landscape paintings balance realism with abstraction to reveal intimate views of nature. Seeking to incorporate awareness of nature into everyday environments I am continually challenged to invent a personal language using spontaneous brush strokes to react to patterns of color and light that are ever changing. The beauty and drama found in the fragile ecosystems of pond plants and reflective water express universal concerns for the environment.  I work directly on canvas imaginatively combining observation, sketches, and photographs, drawing gestural lines choreographing and loosely plotting the composition’s flow, infusing the paintings with a sense of freedom and discovery. I create space that is at once flat and yet suggests the third dimension.

My narrative figure paintings and drawings reflect social interactions. I synthesize elements emphasizing the drama of a moment in time. Dialogues develop through the viewers interpretation.

David Wollin
Port Washington

David Wollin is a resident of Port Washington, NY, and has been an avid photographer since he was a teenager with a basement darkroom. Growing up on Long Island, his love of the water, sailing, and water sports made these subjects his early favorites. Getting his first SLR opened up new vistas, and increased his interest in capturing beautiful scenes and important life cycle moments. The camera went everywhere with him.
While living in New York City, David added portrait photography to his skill base under the tutelage of Josef A. Schneider, the renowned portrait and child photographer. He also learned underwater photography from David Doubilet, now Contributing Photographer-in- Residence at National Geographic.

Being a sailor has enabled David to see, experience, and capture many beautiful and dynamic maritime scenes. Travel has provided him with an even greater range of subjects which he has added to his portfolio. His images range from Maine to Florida, from New York to California and other locales around the world.

David enjoys seeing how dramatic lighting, vivid colors, lines, and shapes combine with his subjects to produce eye-catching and memorable images. “Everywhere I go, whether I am just walking along, or driving in my car, I see something or someone interesting. I visualize a great image that I want to capture. Getting the terrific photo that tells a story or shows the beauty of our surroundings is always exciting and challenging. I photograph a broad range of subjects with that idea in mind.”

David is a member of the Art Guild of Port Washington, the Photographic Federation of Long Island , and is Vice President of the Photography Club of Long Island (PCLI). His work has been displayed at the Media Gallery at the Port Washington Public Library, My Studio in Port Washington, Atria on Roslyn Harbor, The Art Guild at Elderfields Preserve, the Manhasset Public Library, the Port Washington Yacht Club, and at Naples Lakes Country Club in Naples, FL.
